Albert Ellsworth Mahannah, 1864–1924.
Ohio-born lumberman who came to Memphis in 1905, built the Mahannah Lumber Company into the largest hardwood sawmill in the United States, and had a street named after him for it.
Born at Cortland, Ohio on 20 February 1864, son of Harvey and Margaret A. (Moore) Mahannah. He married Ida L. Davis on 7 November 1882 — four sons, Floyd R., Joseph C., Albert A. and Maxwell E. — and after her death at Memphis in 1911 married Elizabeth Breen on 7 April 1915. In the southern lumber trade from 1900, he founded the Mahannah Lumber Company at Memphis in 1905, sold it to the Kelsey Wheel Company of Detroit in 1912 and stayed on as vice-president and general manager until his death at Memphis on 12 October 1924.
