William Tudor ApMadoc Jr., still on court at ninety-nine.
He took up competitive tennis in his late sixties and was the country’s top-ranked player in the ninety age group by 2009. The clippings and the ranking records each have a page of their own.
Born at Evanston, Illinois on 21 December 1919, he died on 27 October 2023 at the age of 103. He married first Viviane Dove, and second Fontie Claire Mahannah, at Commerce, Michigan in 1949; their three children — Gwen Gray, William Tudor III and Gill Claire — were born at Pontiac, Michigan between 1951 and 1955. He chaired the Michigan Trout Unlimited Council, took up competitive tennis in his late sixties, and by 2009 was the top nationally ranked American player in the men’s ninety age group, in singles and doubles both.
